Barbecue Sauce


  • 4kg ripe tomatoes, chopped
  • 500g apple puree
  • 800g onions, chopped
  • 4 cloves garlic, crushed
  • 6 tsp salt
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 bottle Wild’s Ezy-Sauce
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 tsp cayenne pepper
  • ½ cup molasses or maple syrup
  • 3 tbsp mustard
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce


  1. Add tomatoes, apple puree, onions, garlic, salt, bay leaf and Wild’s Ezy-Sauce to a large saucepan.
  2. Simmer for about 1 hour until contents are soft and pulpy. Remove bay leaf, and sieve mixture before returning to rinsed pan.
  3. Add sugar, molasses and spices, stirring until sugar is completely dissolved. Bring to a rapid boil for 2 hours, or until sauce has thickened. 
  4. Using a small funnel or jug, fill sauce into hot sterilised bottles and seal.


Makes approx. 5 litres.

Cooking time: 3 hours

Notes: Recipe based on standard 250ml metric measuring cup and 20ml tablespoon. All measurements are level.
